My favorite quote from St. Augustine comes from his book Confessions. He says this: “To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek him the greatest adventure; to find him, the greatest human achievement.”
All of us are made in the image and likeness of God because of that there is a desire on our hearts, there is a longing in our souls for God. It’s what draws us into relationship with Him. It’s what calls us out of ourselves, recognizing that there is something beyond ourselves. It helps us to acknowledge the transcendental, the divine. It’s what calls us to experience love, true love.
God so desires to be in relationship with us. He simply wants to love us. We are called to respond to that invitation. We are called to fall in love with God, to seek Him, to allow Him to change our lives so that we can go out and love others, to call others into this beautiful relationship.
So today, on this feast day of St. Augustine, let’s recommit ourselves to this great romance, to this great adventure. Let’s strive to enter into the love that the Lord has for us and bring that love to the world.
